ATLAPA Update: One Theater Is Closed
The Rest of the Venue Is Open

Teatro Anayansi is closed for safety work after Panama’s recent earthquake. ATLAPA itself is not fully closed. Here is the simple update for visitors, residents, and event guests.

ATLAPA Convention Center in Panama City

If you have an event at ATLAPA, check the room before you go. Panama’s Tourism Authority says activities at Teatro Anayansi are suspended for now. The theater needs safety work after inspections by Panama’s National Civil Protection System, known as SINAPROC.

The latest notice does not give a reopening date. It says the work will continue while the safety changes are made.

What Happened?

After the recent earthquake, SINAPROC inspected the ATLAPA Convention Center. It recommended safety changes in Teatro Anayansi. The Tourism Authority then paused events in that theater.

Telemetro and Metro Libre reported the same basic update on October 15. The pause is a safety step. It is not a notice that all of ATLAPA is closed.

What Is Still Open?

The official notice says the closure is limited to Teatro Anayansi. The other working spaces at ATLAPA can keep their events. This may include meetings, conferences, and other activities booked in different rooms.

That does not mean every event will go ahead as planned. An event can move, change time, or be canceled by its organizer. The safest move is to check your event directly with the venue or producer.

Do not rely on an old ticket page or a social post. Ask where your event will happen, whether the room changed, and what time guests should arrive.

What Should Visitors Do?

1. Call before you leave

ATLAPA lists the phone number 526-7220 for questions. The official email is [email protected]. Use these contacts if your event is at Teatro Anayansi or if your ticket does not name the room.

2. Check the exact theater on your ticket

ATLAPA has more than one event space. Look for the words “Teatro Anayansi” on your ticket, email, or event page. If you see that name, confirm the event before you go.

3. Plan for a change

If the organizer moves your event to another room, allow extra time. Check the entrance, parking, taxi drop-off, and public transport plan again. Do not assume the new room uses the same entrance.

4. Keep your travel plan flexible

If you are visiting Panama for a concert or conference, do not build a tight schedule around one event. Leave room for a new start time or a different venue plan.

What This Means for Expats and Residents

People who live in Panama City may have friends, work events, or family plans at ATLAPA. The update is useful because it separates one closed theater from the full convention center.

It is also a reminder to check public venues after a major event like an earthquake. A place can look open online while one room is still under repair. A quick call can save a long trip.

The Bottom Line

Teatro Anayansi at ATLAPA is temporarily closed for safety work after the earthquake. The rest of ATLAPA remains open in the latest official notice.

If you have an event there, check the exact room and call the venue before you travel. There is no public reopening date yet.
